The Sechelt Downtown Business Association is once again participating in the annual BIABC's "Turn Down the Heat Week", proudly sponsored by FortisBC. This is part of an ongoing commitment to work with BC businesses to improve energy efficiency while having a positive effect in the community as well as an influence on your bottom line. You, along with many other businesses across the province, will be promoting energy conservation and encouraging customers to turn down their heat at home and at work, to wear a sweater and to donate sweaters and other warm clothing articles for people in need.
The Sechelt Downtown Business Association will donate all sweaters collected to the Sunshine Coast Salvation Army, to be distributed as needed throughout the Coast and in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.

Preparations for Canada Day 2014 are well under way. This is a great opportunity to come out and celebrate Canada Day with friends, family, neighbours and visitors to the best Seaside Village in Canada!
The day starts off with the traditional Lions Club Pancake Breakfast at Gilligans at 8am and then onto some great parade activities along the parade route. Get your seat early to enjoy the parade - 10:30 - 12:30pm
Don't leave after the parade, at the Dock on Cowrie Street we have cake, live entertainment, beer festival, fashion show, artists displays and doggie events. 12:30 - 4:30pm
Hackett Park has two stages of entertainers. The Main stage and the Children's stage. Craft vendors, food, climbing wall, bouncy castle, fish pond, face painting, pony rides, petting zoo, Wonder Wheels Bookmobile, lacrosse, run bike training, LifeCycle training and more!! 12:30 - 4:30pm
New this year is a Talent Show at the Sechelt Activity Centre – Come out and see the talent on the coast from 12:30 - 3:00 pm
Some of the entertainment we have lined up is Bad to the Bow with Chelsea Sleep, Kevin Crofton, Knotty Dotters, Cornpones, Alley Cats, Martini Madness, Playback, Jean Pierre Mikasso, Graham Walker, Jenny Groves, and Zonolite Band.
There are tickets still available for Writers' Festival events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which are held in the beautiful purpose-built amphitheatre at Rockwood Centre. A few hundred feet away at Seaside Centre (in the same building as the Visitors Centre), you'll find the Power of Paint show, which showcases the varied and accomplished work of the painters known as Eleven Equal Artists. The opening is on Friday from 5 - 9pm and the show is open 10 - 6 on Saturday and 10 - 5 on Sunday. Entry to the opening and the show is complimentary.
Finally, a short walk from either of those two venues will bring you to Hackett Park Craft Fair, where the whole family can enjoy the day Saturday 10 - 5 and Sunday 10 - 4. This well-known craft fair features original artisanal works for purchase, and live entertainment for children and adults. Food is available at the fair, or you an use the fair's in-out privileges to take a lunch break at one of Sechelt's cafes and restaurants a few blocks away.

The Sunshine Coast Arts Centre invites you to view a solo exhibition of mixed media abstract paintings by Sunshine Coast artist Ian MacLeod. This evocative body of work captivated many viewers at the opening on September 3rd.
The show is located at the Doris Crowston Gallery, 5714 Medusa, across the street from Hackett Park in Sechelt. Admission is free.

The Sechelt Downtown Business Association invites you to our Oktoberfest event! Join join us to celebrate the autumn season, with a variety of events.
Admire beautiful local art in the showcase windows of downtown Sechelt businesses (on display from September 20th to October 10th). You can bid on one of the works at the art auction at the Oktoberfest. If you haven't entered the Chili cookoff (see below), join us to taste test and vote on your favourite chili. Finally, indulge in some locally crafted seasonally infused beer at the beer garden.
The Sechelt Downtown Business Association is holding an OKTOBERFEST CHILI COOKOFF on Saturday October 4, 2014, and is inviting interested people and businesses to participate.
The Chili Creations will be judged in two categories – crowd favourite and judges’ favourite. Members of the public will have until 4:00 p.m. to submit their ballots for their favourite chili. Winners will be announced shortly after 4:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for first place in both categories and honourable mentions for second and third places.

The 11th anniversary edition of the Sechelt Arts Festival will be presented by the District of Sechelt in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Arts Council. This year’s Festival will celebrate the amazing talents that abound on the Sunshine Coast, continuing to push artistic boundaries and expand existing programs.
