The Sechelt Downtown Business Association is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Downtown Ambassador for a seasonal position running from May 1 to August 2026. This dynamic role is ideal for someone interested in marketing, events, and small business engagement, with responsibilities including promoting local events, creating social media content, conducting business surveys, and representing the SDBA at the Sechelt Farmers’ Market. If you enjoy connecting with people, supporting local businesses, and being part of a vibrant downtown atmosphere, this is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while making a meaningful impact in the community.

Position Title: Downtown Ambassador
Organization: Sechelt Downtown Business Association (SDBA)
Term: May 1, 2026 – August 2026
Location: Sechelt, British Columbia

Position Overview:

  • Seasonal, community-facing role supporting downtown business engagement and summer programming
  • Support Executive Director with marketing, promotion, as well as direct interaction with businesses, residents, and visitors

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote SDBA events, campaigns, and initiatives throughout downtown Sechelt
  • Represent the SDBA at the Sechelt Farmers’ Market booth, engaging with the public and sharing information – every Saturday 9am until 3pm
  • Conduct in-person business visits to administer surveys and gather feedback from local business owners
  • Assist with the planning, setup, and on-site support of events and activations
  • Create and schedule social media content (photos, videos, captions) to promote businesses and events
  • Capture visual content highlighting downtown businesses, events, and community experiences
  • Support “shop local” campaigns and encourage community participation
  • Distribute promotional materials and maintain visibility of SDBA initiatives

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable engaging with the public and local business community
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Creative mindset with an interest in marketing and community development
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Previous customer service, retail, or marketing experience considered an asset

Requirements:

  • Availability to work Saturdays – Farmers’ Market days and events
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods – tent set up and take down
  • Chess Set Up and Take Down – Fridays
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Must have vehicle (mileage to be reimbursed)
  • Must be under 30 years of age (as per Canada Summer Jobs Requirement)

  • Student or emerging young professional seeking experience in marketing, events, and small business support
  • Passionate about supporting local businesses and contributing to a vibrant downtown community

Wage: $22 per hour. 30Hrs per week 16 weeks
